We are looking for a Part-Time (21 hours) Assistant Ecologist on a Permanent

We work in a professional way towards our shared goals, knowing the work we do makes a genuine, lasting difference on the environment. As a [Assistant Ecologist] for [Ecology Assessment Unit in the Galashiels team], [SEPA Assistant Ecologists support Ecologists work to monitor and assess the state of the environment and work with colleagues to trace and reduce pollution through regulation and enforcement. Your role will include:

  • Contributing to our field survey programme – principally in freshwater

  • Analysing samples, principally benthic invertebrates to TL2 level

  • Recording field data and analytical results in laboratory information management system

  • Assisting ecologists in responding to environmental events, such as pollution incidents

A Minimum HND or equivalent in a relevant Science or equivalent experience in technical/scientific professional role
Knowledge of science procedures within a given area of work; Freshwater ecology in general, preferably including macroinvertebrates
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
